NORTHERN TREASURES AND MACHU PICCHU (22 DAYS)

Day 1: LIMA 

Arrival in Lima. Pick up and transfer from Lima Airport to your Hotel, located in Miraflores.

Day 2: LIMA (Breakfast)

LIMA CITY TOUR & LARCO MUSEUM (From Tuesday to Sunday) 

Join our journey through time and enjoy the history of pre-hispanic, colonial and modern Lima. Visit Lima ́s oldest resorts, its valleys, pre-hispanic temples and its grand Main Square. View its colonial architecture and recreational spaces, hear about their religious beliefs and the unique names of its streets, and enjoy the evolution, modernization and the lifestyles of its most picturesque characters.

LARCO MUSEUM 

It is the oldest public museum in Peru. Its importance lies in the vast cultural heritage of its exhibits that include ceramics, textiles, metals, organic and stone artifacts. These objects were found with human remains in great state of conservation using techniques that still amaze the specialists.

Notes: If the tour is done in shared service there will be a bilingual guide.

Day 3: LIMA - CAJAMARCA (Breakfast) 

After breakfast, you will be taken to the airport for your domestic flight to Cajamarca. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. 

CUMBEMAYO ARCHEOLOGICAL COMPLEX (4 hrs 30 min) 

After 32miles travel you will reach Cumbemayo archelogical Complex, characterized by its petrous landscape which, with a little bit of imagination, you can see different animals and petrified figures. One of the most important buildings in the area is the Aqueduct carved in stone, with more than 3000 years old. It was used to transfer in an ascendant way the waters from the Pacific Ocean to the Atlantic Ocean. Besides, you will see the Sacrifice Stone, the Ceremonial Altar and the Sanctuary.

Day 4: CAJAMARCA (Breakfast)

VENTANILLAS DE OTUZCO (4 hours) 

Visit the farms Los Alpes and Three Mills, where they breed the best horses (peruvian Paso) and the best dairy cattle. There is also a dairy factory, a garden of hydrangeas, and the impressive windows of Otuzco. This great necropolis of Pre-Inca origin is famous for its crypts dug in volcanic rocks as well as it drawbridge.

Day 5: CAJAMARCA (Breakfast)

PORCON EXCURSION (4 hrs 30 min) 

Porcón Farm is located about thirty minutes from the city of Cajamarca, here the excursion to Huambo Craft Workshops where we will meet the artisans who carve the stone and work with marble and granite.

We will enjoy the largest artificial Forest Pines Peru's, a small Zoo with various animal species, the farm of guinea pigs and rabbits, dairy factory, the monkey park, park in the deer park vicuñas and other animals native which is a sign of success only in Peru for his organization of agriculture, preserving the customs and traditions. 

We also observed the traditional calling by the name of the cows for milking .

Day 6: CAJAMARCA - TRUJILLO (Breakfast) 

After breakfast, transfer from hotel to the bus station for your road trip to Trujillo. Upon arrival, meeting at the bus station and transfer to the selected hotel.

Day 7: TRUJILLO (Breakfast and Lunch)

SUN AND MOON TEMPLE, CHAN CHAN & HUANCHACO BEACH (6 hrs 30 min.) 

Visit for 2 and a half hours approximately the Sun and Moon Temple, the religious and cultural center of the Moche civilization. Continue to Chan Chan, the bi ggest mud citadel of ancient America, featuring the Tschudi Palace, its ceremonial places, housing, ateliers, labyrinths, walls, the grain stores and the cemetery. Finally you will visit the Huanchaco Beach, famous for its Caballitos de Totora.

Day 8: TRUJILLO (Breakfast)

"EL BRUJO" ARCHEOLOGICAL COMPLEX (5 hrs) 

Visit to “El Brujo Complex”, located in Magdalena del Cao, 60 Km (37 miles) from Trujillo, in the Chicama Valley (1 hour and 15 minutes by car). Out on the Panamerican Highway north to the Chicama valley where you can see the extensive sugar cane crops. In this valley produces the largest amount of sugar in the country with factories Cartavio and Casa Grande. Before coming to Chocope, take the detour to the west to "The Brujo" which sits the archaeological complex consists of 3 huacas: Cao, Partida and Prieta. In the latter the researcher Junnius Bird found evidence of human occupation from 5 000 years BC. In Huaca Cao polychrome paintings have been discovered at different levels representing prisoners, dancing, fishing scenes, war, and beings of the Moche mythology. 

We also look at new and recently opened Museum in honor of the Lady of Cao, mummy belonging to a ruler of the Mochica culture, discovered by a team of archaeologists, the discovery is compared with that of Mr. of Sipan, before this finding, it was thought that only men exercised officials in ancient Peru.

Day 9: TRUJILLO - CHICLAYO (Breakfast)

After breakfast and at according time, transfer to the bus station for your road trip to Chiclayo (3 hrs 30 min.)

Upon arrival, meeting at the bus station and transfer to your hotel. 


BRUNING MUSEUM (2 hrs 30 min.)

You will be transfered to Lambayeque city, where you will visit the Bruning Museum, a very important museum in the north of Peru. It has collections of gold, silver and copper objects from different cultures that belongs to this region since 4,000 years ago, as well as Lord of Sipan treasures.

Day 10: CHICLAYO (Breakfast and Lunch)

ROYAL TOMBS OF THE LORD OF SIPAN & TUCUME COMPLEX (8 hrs) 

Full day visit to The Royal tombs of Sipan Museum, a three floors building which architecture has been inspired in the old Pyramids of the Moche Culture. It has the most important objects from the Moche Culture such as the Sipan pieces. Afterwards, you will visit the Tucume complex, at the foot of La Raya hill, it is made up of 26 truncated pyramids (700-1100 B.C). Finally, you will visit Huaca Rajada, the ancient mud brick burial platform where the fabulous tomb of the Lord of Sipan was discovered with gold and gemstones which have re vealed a great amount of information about the old Moche culture. You will visit the local museum and diggings. Lunch included. 

At the appropriate time, transfer to the bus station for your road trip to Chachapoyas (10 hrs).

Day 11: CHACHAPOYAS (Breakfast)

Transfer from the bus station to the Hotel. 

KARAJIA SARCOPHAGI (6 hours)

The Sarcophagus of Karajía belonged to Chipuric Archaeological Complex in Chacha Culture (1100-1300 AD) is characterized by a unique form of burial in the world, appear in small groups consisting of 04-08, statues to 2.50 meters high, are attached laterally and reclining backs to the rock of the cave, some of these sarcophagi have a skull trophy, crowning the top of the head, no less important and spectacular burial sites are: Caverns Quiocta , the graves of San Antonio and Village of the Dead.

Day 12: CHACHAPOYAS (Breakfast , Lunch and Dinner)

KUELAP FORTRESS (9 hrs) 

The citadel of Kuelap is located in the district of Tingo, province of Luya, Amazonas department, (at 73 km south of Chachapoyas) at an altitude of 3,000 m.a.s.l. The structure, situated on a ridge overlooking the Utcubamba Valley in northern Peru. The perfect organization of the Chachapoyas could raise from the V century AD approx. Chachapoyas this imposing citadel of more than 7 hectares, according to the latest archaeological research was allegedly one of the most important places of its time, also serve as a residence for the elite was also the place to house the mummified bodies of the highest leaders of the ethnic culture of the Chachapoyas. Kuelap, the holy city of Chachapoyas, is built on artificial fill a large stone walls which reach 20 meters high, making the place as impregnable, this landfill was the basis to build more than 500 homes many of them held until on a series of friezes and decorations that are likely to represent their gods and / or deities and today 1500 years later is the admiration of the visitors.

Day 13: CHACHAPOYAS (Breakfast and Dinner)

GOCTA WATERFALL (8 hrs 30 min.) 

Ranked as the third highest in the world (711 meters above high) after cataract of Tugelafalls (South Africa, 948 meters), moving to fourth place at cataract Yosemite (USA, 739 m) Gocta, is located only 2 hours away by car from the city of Chachapoyas and three-hour walk from the towns of San Pablo Cocachimba or de Valera, Valera District. Made known to the world by Stefan Ziemendorff German citizen in early 2006, is now considered must-see destination for tourists and foreign nations who visit this region of Chachapoyas, the surrounding lush vegetation typically exists, such as the Giant Fern, variety of orchids, several species of butterflies, the yellow-tailed woolly monkey, the spectacled bear, deer, etc.. tourists have the option of visiting his two falls from the village of San Pablo de Valera (first fall - three hours away) and people of Cocachimba (second fall - three hours).

Day 14: CHACHAPOYAS (Breakfast and Box Lunch)

REVASH FUNERARY
 

Near the town of Santo Tomas de Quillay, we will find a group of burial buildings in the clif of the mountains. The funeral center belonged to an archaeological culture parallel to Chacha (1.100 to 1.300 DC) made up of rectangular buildings (Chullpas) with 1, 2 and 3 floors. Most of these "funeral homes" have sloping roofs, of two waters and of only one fall are purely symbolic, since they were protected by the cave, they didn't have to support neither rain nor the sun. For the same reason, it was enough to imitate them, constructing them with a mud cake, and it was supported by sticks and reeds shaping in this way a form of quincha. Revash mausoleums are the most conservative and stylish.


LEYMEBAMBA MUMMY MUSEUM

Located 10 minutes from Leymebamba Celendín road in its interior houses over 2000 objects, 219 mummies and an interesting collection of Quipus, ceramics, textiles, ceremonial artifacts, weapons. among others, all this material was recovered and brought from the mausoleums of the Lake of the Condors, this museum is the second highest in Peru which is managed by the communities through local committees run by the Mallqui Centre is an institution dedicated to archaeological research.

Day 15: CHICLAYO - LIMA

Transfer from the bus station and transfer to the airport for your domestic flight to Lima. Upon arrival transfer from the airport to your hotel.

Day 16: LIMA - CUSCO (Breakfast)

Transfer from the Hotel to the Airport for your domestic flight to Cusco. Upon your arrival at the airport you will be transferred to your hotel. 

Time to acclimatize and enjoy a light lunch (lunch on your own) and to explore the City at your own leisure. 


CITY TOUR AND NEARBY RUINS 

After an early breakfast, you will be taken to the airport for your domestic flight to Cusco. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your selected hotel. Time to acclimatize and enjoy a light lunch before to start your excursion (lunch on your own). In the afternoon, you will start a guided visit to the four ruins surrounding Cusco, the Sacsayhuaman Fortress; Kenko, Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay. In addition, Main Square, the Cathedral and the Koricancha

Day 17: CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY (Breakfast and Lunch)

AUTHENTIC SACRED VALLEY 

Discover the best of the Sacred Valley of the Incas through this route starting on the Inca's Balcony, in Chinchero, a beautiful place with an impressive view, where twelves families still preserve their traditional costumes, showing you the ancestral way in which they process the wool, and obtain those vivid colors for their textiles. Later, we will arrive to Moray, an impressing pre-Inca greenhouse, then, we will have lunch in a local restaurant. Afterwards, we will get to Ollantaytambo, one of the most monumental architectural complexes of the ancient Inca Empire, one of the few places where the Spanish conquistadors lost a major battle. Very well known for its “andenes” (terraces dug into the slopes of mountains for agricultural purposes), Ollantaytambo was a highly effective fortress, that also served as a temple. Then, we will follow to the town of Ollantaytambo, with narrow cobblestone streets that have been continuously inhabited since the 13th century.

Day 18: SACRED VALLEY - MACHU PICCHU (Breakfast and Lunch)

After breakfast transfer to Ollantaytambo train station.

VISIT TO MACHU PICCHU

You will arrive to Aguas Calientes Station in Machu-Picchu and then you will be transported by bus to Machu Picchu citadel, one of the most renowned examples of the Inca’s architecture, surrounded by an amazing landscape of lush forest. Lost in history, Machu Picchu was not discovered until 1911 by the American explorer Hiram Bingham, but was built in the middle of XV century. The name of the citadel comes from the Quechua language that means “Old Mountain” and apparently was the principal Inca’s Sanctuary. 

Note: Carry-on luggage allowed per passenger is only 5 kg/11 lbs. The large suitcase can be stored at your hotel in Cuzco.

Day 19: MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO (Breakfast)

SECOND DAY MACHU PICCHU & HUAYNA PICCHU (3 hrs) * 

You can make a second visit to Machu Picchu. (*Subject to availability). If you are adventurous, you might enjoy of the adrenaline of ascending the Huayna Picchu which means “Young Mountain”, here you will visit the Temple of the Moon and what is worthwhile is the amazing view from the entire valley and Machu Picchu, therefore you can have an awesome photograph from the full sight of the citadel. * Guide is not included.

At the appointed time, you will return to the station to take your train ride back to Cusco.

Day 20: CUSCO (Breakfast)

Free day to explore the city at your own leisure. The rest of the evening is personal time to explore Cusco which offers a wide variety of restaurants, bars, discos and others.

Day 21: CUSCO - LIMA (Breakfast)

Transfer from the hotel to the airport for your domestic flight back to Lima. Upon arrival transfer from the airport to the hotel.
