WONDER RAINFOREST   (8 days)

Day 1: LIMA (Meals not included) 

Arrival in Lima. Pick up and transfer from Lima Airport to your Hotel, located in Miraflores.

Day 2: LIMA (Breakfast)

LIMA CITY TOUR 

We will begin our tour visiting the modern suburbs of San Isidro and Miraflores where we will see the Financial Center, the San Isidro Golf Course a nd the Olive Grove Park. We will also go by the Huaca Pucllana, a pre-inca pyramid shape temple that has survived the expansion of modern civilization. We will stop at Parque del Amor (Love Park) and enjoy a nice view of the Pacific Ocean, as we drive down the Miraflores Malecon, a road along the cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Continue our visit to downtown Lima`s historical center, designated by Unesco as Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 1991. In this journey we will enjoy what once was the center of the 16th century Spanish colony. We will see the Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, the Cathedral, the Archbishop`s Palace, the City Hall and the Desamparados Train Station. We will also see Plaza San Martin, a large park surrounded by old colonial buildings still displaying beautiful carved wood balconies and other landmarks.

Finally we will visit the San Francisco Monastery and its famous underground crypts known as the Catacombs. At the end of the tour you will have a choice to either shop at the Indian Market, Larcomar Mall or return to your hotel.

Day 3: LIMA - CUSCO (Breakfast)

CUSCO CITY TOUR AND NEARBY RUINS 

After an early breakfast, you will be taken to the airport for your domestic flight to Cusco. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your selected hotel. Time to acclimatize and enjoy a light lunch before to start your excursion (lunch on your own). In the afternoon, you will start a guided visit to the four ruins surrounding Cusco, the Sacsayhuaman Fortress; Kenko, Puca-Pucara and Tambomachay. 

In addition, Main Square, the Cathedral and the Koricancha Sun Temple visits are included in the tour. The rest of the evening is personal time to explore Cusco which offers a wide variety of restaurants, bars, discos and others.

Day 4: CUSCO - SACRED VALLEY (Breakfast and Lunch)

FULL DAY EXCURSION TO PISAC RUINS AND MARKET, OLLANTAYTAMBO FORTRESS AND CHINCHERO 

We start our tour to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop will be at a Textile Center where we will see a demonstration of textile arts in its most natural expression. 

We will also get to see some native animals of Peru, some of them in danger of extinction. Next, we will go to the Pisac Archaeological Complex. We will visit the lower part of the complex, where the agricultural area and the pre-Hispanic cemetery (the largest in America) are located. We will also visit the artisan market and continue to the Valley of Urubamba, where we will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch. Later on, we will go to the town of Ollantaytambo and visit the Archaeological Complex. As we return to the city of the Cusco we will visit the town of Chinchero, famous by its handmade textiles.

Day 5: SACRED VALLEY - MACHU PICCHU - CUSCO (Breakfast and Lunch)

FULL DAY EXCURSION TO MACHU PICCHU 

An early breakfast before your transfer to Ollantaytambo train station to take the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes where our memorable trip to Machu Picchu start. This 1 ½ hour train ride takes us to the active market town of Aguas Calientes from where we catch the bus up to the extraordinary Machu Picchu ruins. 

A tour with an English speaking guide of this fabulous “lost city of the Incas” rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. With houses and temples surrounded by terraces cut into the mountain side. 

Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

After the Tour, we will return to Cusco.

Day 6: CUSCO - PUERTO MALDONADO (Full board)

INKATERRA LOUNGE - TRAIL SYSTEM & TWILIGHT RIVER 

Start your journey arriving to Puerto Maldonado, where our staff will welcome you and provide the necessary information for your stay. Navigate by outboard motorized canoe along the Madre de Dios River to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepción for approximately 25 minutes. Enjoy LUNCH with organic ingredients and native flavors. After lunch, take a walk through CONCEPCION TRAILS, inside property nature trails, where you will discover and learn about primary and secondary rainforest, its components, uses, transformations by the human being, and its relevance for the world. At dusk navigate by outboard motorized canoe, at the TWILIGHT RIVER excursion. By sailing on the Madre de Dios River, you will learn about its ecosystem, Amazonian creeks, nocturnal animals’ behavior, and the southern constellations. In the evening enjoy a nice DINNER in the Casa Grande´s dining room.

Day 7: PUERTO MALDONADO (Full board)

LAKE SANDOVAL, INKATERRA CANOPY WALKWAY & ANACONDA HIKE - HIDDEN JUNGLE 

New experiences are ahead and after taking a nutritious buffet breakfast, get ready for a long trek through terra firma into the Tambopata National Reserve towards LAKE SANDOVAL. Here you will understand why Madre de Dios is called the biodiversity capital of Peru, while learning about the Reserve’s conservation efforts and the lake’s formation. Navigate by dugout canoe across this mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter (Pteronura brasiliensis), blue and yellow macaw (Ara ararauna), red howler monkey (Alouatta seniculus), black caiman (Melanosuchus niger), and one of the world’s biggest fresh water scaled fish, the paiche (Arapaima gigas).

Back to the lodge for LUNCH, and later the INKATERRA CANOPY WALKWAY & ANACONDA WALK await for you. Take a 20-minute ride by outboar d motorized canoe to the Inkaterra Canopy Walkway Interpretation Center where you will learn about its construction and the conservation projects of ITA-Inkaterra Asociación (NGO). Ascend one of the two 98-foot towers (30 m.) and cross the 7 hanging bridges that connect the treetops at 91 ft. high (28 m). Enjoy the breathtaking vistas and get the chance to watch white-throated toucans (Ramphastos tucanus), woodpeckers, trogons, squirrel monkeys (Saimiri boliviensis) and the three-toed sloth (Choleopus hoffmani). After descending keep on feeling the incredible primary rainforest energy going along the 200-meter wooden bridge over the swamps (aguajales). You will learn about the fauna and flora of this flooded ecosystem.

At night get ready for an adventure during the HIDDEN RAINFOREST excursion, where you will explore the Amazon rainforest that gives way to nocturnal animals who display intriguing behavior patterns, and enhanced senses as adaptation mechanisms. Listen to nocturnal living nature sounds, and penetrate this hidden world. End up your day with a pleasant dinner.

Day 8: PUERTO MALDONADO - LIMA (Breakfast)

RETURN TO PUERTO MALDONADO 

After BREAKFAST buffet, take a ride back to Puerto Maldonado by outboard motorized canoe. Arrive at the Butterfly House where you may wait for your flight back home or to your next destination, while visiting this beautiful BUTTERFLY HOUSE and learning about the fascinating transformation of these colorful insects, bred in our laboratory.

Note: Check-out time is at 11:00, you could choose to stay at the lodge or go earlier to Puerto Maldonado. Although lunch is not included on the last day, you can choose to have lunch at the lodge (pay directly at the hotel) or have a snack at the Butterfly House (additional cost). For further assistance, please contact our Reception team.
